Interactive Kiosk: Pet Paradise Fish Database

This interactive kiosk was custom developed to provide a wide range of knowledge on fish types and their care. It needed to be both customer-facing, and provide staff with a training resource and tool to use with customers.


The Challenges:

  • Pet Paradise wanted the ability to showcase the variety of fish that they have had in the past and can get into the store.
  • A tool was needed for staff training in fish types and care.
  • Customers did not always know the full care requirements of the fish they were interested in. It is common for a customer to see a 'visually pleasing' fish and think they want that one, when it may not be compatible with their tank setup.
  • When staff was unavailable, there wasn't a way for customers to learn about fish in the store.
  • After the kiosk was installed, staff would need an easy method to add new or update current fish.
  • A way to direct people to the website for online shopping and creating a rewards account was needed.

The Solution:

An interactive kiosk was custom developed and placed in the fish department. It displays a large variety of fish and their care requirements. The unit is a Samsung 'all-in-one' floor-standing kiosk, providing a sleek minimal look that does not take up too much space. The custom-developed application is user-friendly with a simple and intuitive user-interface.


Interactive Kiosk Benefits:

  • The interactive kiosk empowers customers to independently find information about fish they are interested in, their care requirements, and maintenance.
  • It helps to relieve staff time in educating customers.
  • It provides a training tool to educate staff on different fish the store may have. It also provides a correct resource for staff to get information from when helping customers.
  • Scannable QR Codes take customers to links on the website where they can check product availability and shop online.
  • A custom password protected website was created to allow staff easy access to update and add new fish to the kiosk through a user-friendly interface.


How it's going:

  • Staff is updating the kiosk regularly to include new fish.
  • After 5 months of having the kiosk in the store, we saw an average of 183 uses a month. The weekends had the highest use for days of the week, with the highest daily activity hours occurring around 4 pm.
  • At this time, the most viewed fish is the Pea Puffer fish!


EyeLook Media provides ongoing updates, maintenance and support to the kiosk and Pet Paradise plans to replicate the kiosk in its second location.
